What Is Meditation Music?

pink_floyd__dark_side_of_the_moonMeditation music is any sound or combination thereof that evokes in the listener a strong state of mind. Vague, yeah, but why limit ourselves? Pink Floyd still trumps all when it comes to engagement in music so intense that the music is all there is at that moment. When everything else literally disappears for you, your surroundings, your thoughts, your identity have gone, baring you to face head-on the unseemly vast expanse in the dark cave of the mind. What better way to meditate than to mind-blowing music?

The Meditation Music Experience – A Multi-Sensory Ordeal

There is so much crazy insane music out there that can do crazy insane things with your head, especially if you have a nice set of headphones (the bigger the better) so you can crank up the volume and get the full effect. This experience of being bombarded with sound brings you into a new awareness of music as a multisensory phenomenon.

You feel the vibrations and tones going through your ears and into your brain, you close your eyes and see the notes and bass thumps penetrating your flesh as if it were air and floating around inside your skull all flowy and ethereal-like, you take in a big, satisfying whiff of vibration through the nose and as you allow the sound particles to escape through your mouth on the exhale, they inadvertently rub up against some taste buds as u notice a distinct flavor on your tongue, like an exquisitely aged camembert.

Music Visualization as a Meditation Technique

Imagine like a windows media player visualization making a bridge between your ears in 3D, like the “bars and waves” – “scope” one.

A Windows Media Player visualization of music, “bars and waves” – “scope” setting. Imagine this oscillating between your ears, but in 3 dimensions.

And this one could be something like what you might visualize is happening when music flows into your ears and through your body.

Waves, particles, crazy swooshes, or the Pink Floyd triangle? Whatever you see when you imagine the music traveling through you, the act of this visualization is an excellent meditative tool, an intense one, especially when combined with the good headphones so you can hear, feel, and see the music all at once, a complete immersion into sound.

Witness the vibrations fully. Hear them. See them. Feel them. Be them.
