Welcome to KungFuPunk.com, where kung fu is way beyond martial arts; it's a mentality, a state of mind. Kung fu is a way of looking at and doing things, for some a way of life.
When people say "kung fu" they usually mean chinese martial arts or wushu. Like karate is japanese martial arts, the word kung fu has become synonymous with chinese martial arts. But kung fu translated literally does not mean martial arts but something like ‘achievement through effort’ or even just ‘effort,’ so while it can certainly be applied to martial arts, kung fu encompasses much more.
Although kung fu does not automatically entail martial arts, kung fu martial arts can be a powerful tool to good kung fu, i.e. achievement through effort or skill, in other arenas of life. Discipline, focus, sustained effort, and mastery of the self are some of the facets developed through kung fu martial arts which can be applied in any other area.
